BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Twenty-three new graduates of the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ were honored with scholarships and awards during the school's recent commencement ceremony.
The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ is a premier research-intensive public university, the largest and most comprehensive campus in the State ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ of New York. UB's more than 27,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students pursue their academic interests through more than 100 undergraduate programs, 112 master's programs and 98 doctoral-level programs.
The award recipients were:
• Emily Russell of Averill Park, the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award recognizing academic performance, leadership and service to the university and the community
• Jessica Walsh of Buffalo, the Exercise Science Honors Research Program Award, the Academic Scholarship for Undergraduates and the Annette Rachman Scholarship recognizing students who maintain at least a "B" average studying in the field of nutrition and dietetics
• Chiung-Yu Cho of Buffalo, the Gait & Clinical Movement Analysis Society Student Conference Award, the Graduate Student Employee Union Professional Development Award and a J. Warren Perry Scholarship honoring outstanding academic achievement and exceptional professional promise
• Jeng-Liang (Eric) Hwang of Dunkirk, a Mark Diamond Research Award
• Therese Rafalowski Welch of Rochester, a Mark Diamond Research Award
• Jill Murphy of Syracuse, the Saxon Graham Award, given to a doctoral student who has demonstrated excellence in epidemiology
• Stephanie B. Grim of Buffalo, the Francis Hanavan Award for academic excellence in the areas of teaching and research and a Stonegraber Scholarship
• Laura Malczewski of Lancaster, the Carlton R. Meyers Award recognizing an outstanding graduate student from the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences
• Kristopher D. Bosch of East Amherst, a J. Warren Perry Scholarship honoring outstanding academic achievement and exceptional professional promise and a Stonegraber Scholarship
• Jacquia Lameesha Fenderson of Buffalo, a J. Warren Perry Scholarship honoring outstanding academic achievement and exceptional professional promise
• Kimberly J. French of Kingsland, Ga., a Stonegraber Scholarship
• Theresa Nguygen of Fresh Meadows, a Stonegraber Scholarship
The following students received Annette Rachman Scholarships recognizing students who maintain at least a "B" average studying in the field of nutrition and dietetics:
